West Ham United have named Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager following the dismissal of Graham Potter after a poor start to the Premier League season.
Potter, 50, was sacked with the Hammers sitting second from bottom, having lost four of their opening five matches. His tenure lasted less than nine months after he succeeded Julen Lopetegui, who had replaced David Moyes last summer.
In a statement, the club said: “Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”
Potter’s departure also affects his entire backroom team — Bruno Saltor, Billy Reid, Narcis Pelach, Casper Ankergren, and Linus Kandolin — who have left the London Stadium with immediate effect. The board thanked them for their contributions and wished them success in the future.
Nuno, 51, joins just weeks after being dismissed by Nottingham Forest, where he managed only three league games. The Portuguese coach, formerly in charge of Wolves and Tottenham, becomes West Ham’s third manager in a year.
He will take charge of the Hammers’ next Premier League fixture against Everton on Monday, where he will face Moyes, his predecessor at the London Stadium.
Despite the managerial shake-up, West Ham’s head of recruitment and long-time Potter associate, Kyle Macaulay, remains in his role.
