The Zamfara State chapter of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANM) has embarked on a six-day warning strike across state-owned general hospitals.
The union said the action, which began on Saturday, was to draw the state government’s attention to grievances over the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
NANM Chairman, Sani Shehu, explained that while the government approved a new salary structure for doctors under CONMESS in June, it neglected to implement the revised CONHESS for nurses and midwives.
He said the union had held several engagements with the government up to August without results. The current action follows a seven-day warning strike declared on September 11, which was suspended after one day following government intervention.
According to Shehu, the suspended action has now resumed, with members set to observe the remaining six days through to Tuesday. He warned that the union would proceed on an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.
