Ukraine is considering restricting mobile network quality during Russian drone attacks to hinder enemy operations, Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov has said.
Speaking to the Novyny Live channel on Sunday, Hnatov explained the measure would not involve cutting off mobile services entirely but temporarily limiting access to high-speed internet. “This is not a disruption of mobile communications, but rather a restriction on the quality of communications in certain areas, like a restriction on 4G and 5G,” he said.
The strategy aims to prevent Russian drones from using Ukrainian networks to transmit live images or coordinate strikes. Local media noted that drones equipped with cameras often depend on 4G connectivity to function effectively.
The move comes as Moscow intensifies aerial assaults more than three years into the war, deploying upgraded drones to target infrastructure and strategic sites. The approach would mirror Russia’s own tactics, as it has frequently shut down mobile internet to limit Ukrainian drone activity.
