Matt Robinson, father of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has been praised as the “father of justice” after reportedly handing over his son, the alleged gunman in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
President Donald Trump confirmed during a live interview that the suspect was in custody, saying, “Somebody very close to him turned him in,” later revealing it was his father who acted through a minister connected to law enforcement.
According to reports, Matt Robinson, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, recognized his son from FBI-released photos and alerted authorities after Tyler allegedly confessed to him. Social media users commended Robinson for choosing accountability over family ties, with many calling his decision painful but necessary.
Tyler Robinson, identified as the shooter, was seen in FBI images wearing a black T-shirt with an American flag, a cap, and sunglasses. He allegedly shot Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University before fleeing. The FBI initially detained the wrong suspect, sparking criticism, before Robinson’s arrest ended the manhunt.
Daily Mail reported that Tyler’s mother, Amber Robinson, works with a care agency supporting people with disabilities, while the family resides in Washington, Utah. The Robinsons’ social media pages show a seemingly normal family life, including posts celebrating Tyler’s college admission.
The killing has drawn national attention, with heightened scrutiny on the FBI’s handling of the case and renewed debate over political violence in the United States.
