Senator Ned Nwoko has said his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, must undergo rehabilitation due to drug-related concerns to protect her health and ensure she is in the right frame of mind to care for their children.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, Nwoko explained that his position was based on several alarming toxicology reports that revealed the actress’s deteriorating condition.

He said his wife’s calm personality had changed in recent months, as she began exhibiting violent and destructive behaviour alongside recurring health crises.

According to him, sending Regina to rehabilitation is a necessary step to stop her access to drugs and restore her wellbeing.

“I want her alive and healthy not just for me, but for our children,” Nwoko said. “We have two young kids together, and I must protect them by safeguarding their mother. Many people have died of drug overdose, and if anything happens to her, what will I tell her children tomorrow?

“I have lived with this problem for eight months. On three occasions, I carried her unconscious to Nizamiye Hospital due to drug overdose you can verify it.”

The lawmaker, who presented copies of the toxicology results, warned that anyone discouraging the actress from seeking medical help in a rehabilitation centre was not acting in her or her children’s interest.

He dismissed recent social media posts by Regina’s mother and siblings denying the drug abuse claims as “baseless distractions,” insisting they were living in denial.

“If they really want to prove me wrong, let them take her to any toxicologist of their choice. I will pay the bills even outside Nigeria,” he stated.

Nwoko also accused Regina’s siblings and close friends, particularly her brother Sammy, of enabling her addiction and sabotaging her recovery efforts.

“I trusted her siblings and friends around her, but they exploited that trust,” he said. “Each time progress was made, they undid it by smuggling in the same drugs she was trying to quit. Now they’re shielding her from getting treatment.”

He expressed dismay at a social media post by Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, alleging that his late son died of a drug overdose in the UK, calling it “an inhuman attack on the dead,” adding that no autopsy confirmed such a claim.

The couple’s marital dispute became public when Regina accused Nwoko of physical assault and announced she was leaving the marriage. The senator, however, denied the allegations, blaming her behaviour on substance abuse.
