The Nasarawa State Police Command has refuted reports that students of St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, were abducted on Friday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement that the viral claims circulating on social media and some news platforms were false. He explained that the panic began after some students heading to the field for a Physical and Health Education class saw armed hunters and fled, mistaking them for kidnappers. Their teachers later guided them safely back to school.

Nansel said Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately dispatched police and military personnel to the area after receiving the distress call. He noted that security operatives found no abduction had occurred and that the area was thoroughly searched before normalcy was restored.

The school proprietor also confirmed to the police that no student was kidnapped, describing the alarm as a misunderstanding.

The command advised the public to disregard the false reports and urged media organisations to verify information before publishing to avoid causing unnecessary panic.
