An Ogun State High Court in Ota has refused bail to popular hip-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges.
Portable faces a nine-count charge including assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. The presiding judge declined to grant bail, noting that the police officer allegedly assaulted during the incident was absent from court. The judge said the officer’s presence was necessary to rule on the bail application.
Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody, with the matter adjourned to January 19 for further hearing on bail.
The Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed that the charges arose from a complaint filed by Portable’s estranged partner, Ashabi Simple. The singer was arrested over allegations connected to a New Year’s Day incident at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo.
Prosecutors allege that Portable attacked Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals present during the incident. He is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly owned by complainant Ileyemi Damilola and registered under Wally Dex Auto dealership.
During proceedings, two of Ashabi’s siblings testified as prosecution witnesses. Ashabi herself was absent from court. The police further alleged that Portable assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her official duties.
The court is set to continue hearing the matter on January 19.
