Gunmen on Monday night abducted an elderly woman and her granddaughter in Arak village, Sanga Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna, just two days after killing her son and another resident.
The woman, identified as Mrs. Averik Arak, was reportedly mourning the death of her son, Habila Averik, who was killed along with his wife and daughter on Saturday. She was said to have been unwell when the bandits returned.
In separate attacks in Kauru and Kajuru local government areas, armed men kidnapped 15 villagers, mostly minors, from Unguwan Sarki Maro in Kajuru, while 16 people were abducted and one person killed in Kadage village, Kauru.
A local source from Kadage village told SaharaReporters that over 100 residents had been held by bandits between December 1, 2025, and January 4, 2026, lamenting what he described as a media blackout on the resurgence of violence in the region.
Southern Kaduna has witnessed repeated attacks in recent years. A previous incident in Kachia town saw four members of a family—Mr. Bitrus Bahago, his wife, Mrs. Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son Ibrahim, and a relative, Adam Waziri—killed during a night raid. Survivors sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.
As of the time of reporting, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attacks. Residents continue to call on federal and state authorities to strengthen security and protect vulnerable communities.
