Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has alleged that public office holders and political appointees in Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration are being pressured to support the governor’s rumored defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso made the claim in a video shared on Facebook by his aide, Saifullahi Hassan, stating that state lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors, and other appointees were forced to choose between loyalty to the Kwankwassiya movement and the Gandujiyya (APC) faction.

According to the former Kano governor, several officials have contacted him to express the personal and professional difficulties they are facing due to the political crisis. “Some have had sleepless nights, while others were hospitalized under stress. I advised those compelled to append their signatures to go ahead, in order to relieve the pressure,” Kwankwaso said.

He added that the political battle for 2027 is far from over and acknowledged the support of caucuses and members who have remained loyal despite pressures and enticements. Kwankwaso also thanked Governor Yusuf, who recently praised the former administration and highlighted projects abandoned by previous leadership.

The controversy follows widespread speculation that Governor Yusuf intends to leave the NNPP for the APC, a move that reportedly goes against the wishes of his political godfather, Kwankwaso.

The NNPP leader’s comments underscore growing tension within Kano State’s political landscape as stakeholders prepare for the next general elections.
