Igwe Ogadagidi Celebrates Maiden Ofala Festival in Edem-Ani Ogwugwu

The Traditional Ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, HRH Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu Jnr. (Igwe Ogadagidi), on Saturday celebrated his first Ofala Festival, attracting prominent traditional rulers, political leaders, clergy, and community members.

The Chairman of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Sir Dr. Linus Mbah, was among the dignitaries in attendance.

Delivering the homily during the thanksgiving service, Venerable Christian Eze thanked participants for honouring the historic celebration.

He described the festival as a significant act of service to God, emphasizing that leadership requires humility. Citing the Book of Matthew, he said Igwe Asadu’s life reflects the qualities of a servant leader.

Other traditional rulers present included Igwe Dr. Emmanuel Akwo, the Agabiui of Igala Kingdom alongside various monarchs from Enugu State and beyond. The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, also attended.

The Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Councils was represented at the ceremony and presented kolanut and a cow, offering prayers for the monarch’s long life and good health. Hon. Dean Okey Bodo was represented by Chief Olwgwu.

During the ceremony, Igwe Asadu performed the traditional breaking of kolanut and prayed that it would bring blessings and good tidings to all attendees.

A highlight of the event was the conferment of chieftaincy titles on distinguished individuals. Chief Dr. Ahmed Abdulaziz was conferred the title of Oyie Ndi Igbo; Chief Longinus Uche received the title Unanne Di Na Mba; and Ambassador Justina Eze was also honoured with a title by the monarch. In his welcome address, the Onowu of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu, Chief Zeb Ugwu, welcomed guests and expressed appreciation for the large turnout recorded at the community’s first Ofala celebration.

The festival featured cultural displays, music, and traditional entertainment, with community members and guests participating in the day’s activities.
