A Nigerian Navy officer, Lt. A.M. Yerima, who recently had an altercation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was on Monday night reportedly trailed by unidentified individuals in Abuja.

Sources said Yerima was followed by two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way at about 6:30 p.m. The officer was said to have successfully carried out evasive maneuvers to avoid the suspected pursuers.

Security authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. A source, however, declined to give further details, noting that sensitive information was being withheld so as not to compromise the probe.

Yerima’s recent confrontation with the FCT Minister in Abuja had earlier sparked widespread public reactions. The Presidency has reportedly intervened in the matter, leading to the withdrawal of demolition equipment earlier deployed by FCT officials to a disputed land in the Gaduwa District.
