The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has demanded a full report on the inflight altercation involving social media personalities Martins Otse (VeryDarkman) and Freedom Atsepoyi (Mr Jollof) aboard United Nigeria Airlines Flight UN0523 at the Asaba International Airport, Delta State.
NCAA spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this in a post on X, noting that the airline had yet to submit an official incident report. He said the authority had instructed its officers in Asaba to investigate the actions taken by aviation security, the pilot, and other personnel before, during, and after the disturbance.
Reacting to an online post suggesting that the duo escaped punishment because of a weak system, Achimugu explained that standard procedure requires aviation security to deboard, arrest and interrogate unruly passengers before determining whether to prosecute them.
He confirmed that both passengers were removed from the aircraft and taken for questioning.
“I have asked why the airline has not forwarded an incident report. I am told they are currently in a management meeting, which is standard practice,” he stated.
Achimugu added that the NCAA would thoroughly review how quickly security personnel responded, how long the altercation lasted, and whether the pilot made a formal call for security intervention.
He stressed that although the NCAA cannot prosecute offenders, it can advise airlines to blacklist unruly passengers and notify the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police for possible prosecution.
“When all findings are concluded, appropriate actions will be taken by the relevant agencies,” he assured.
