An autopsy has confirmed that former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, was murdered, the Lagos State Police Command has revealed.
Akingboye died under unclear circumstances on September 3, 2025, after his body was reportedly found in the backyard of his Lagos mansion. His first son, Samuel Akingboye, who lives in Ondo State, alerted the police and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
Speaking to Channels Television, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, CP Olorundare Jimoh, said the autopsy conducted on September 11, 2025, alongside new investigative findings, led to the re-arrest and detention of seven out of 14 family members earlier questioned by detectives.
“With the toxicology findings concluded, we await advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder,” Jimoh stated.
The police chief reaffirmed his commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served. He added that the command is awaiting formal legal guidance from the DPP to determine the next steps in the case.
One of the suspicious indicators under investigation is a N50 million transfer from the late Akingboye’s bank account, allegedly shared among some immediate family members.
The police say the investigation remains active as they work to establish full circumstances surrounding the politician’s death.
