Armed bandits on Sunday night invaded Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, abducting at least 25 schoolgirls and killing the school’s vice principal.
A resident, Sulaiman Abdullahi, told Vanguard that the attackers, who arrived in large numbers and were heavily armed, opened fire indiscriminately before gaining access to the school premises. He said several unidentified bodies were also found within the school compound after the assault.
According to him, Air Force fighter jets were sighted hovering over the area around 8 a.m. on Monday, while security personnel cordoned off the community shortly after the attack.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the command had deployed a tactical team to commence a rescue operation for the abducted students. He added that efforts were being intensified to ensure the safe return of all victims.
Abubakar stated that the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, had vowed to end the menace and restore security in the affected area.
