Gunmen have abducted Maruf Musa, a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of the state.

Musa, who represented the Ogun Waterside constituency during the Sixth Assembly between 2007 and 2011, was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday night in Ibiade community.

According to reports, the assailants stormed Musa’s residence during prayers at a mosque within his compound, firing gunshots into the air to scare residents before whisking him away.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday evening, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Boluwatife, said security agencies had launched a manhunt for the abductors.

He disclosed that the anti-kidnapping unit and other tactical teams had been deployed to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the former lawmaker.

Boluwatife urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the police would provide updates as the operation progresses.
