Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday signed the ₦1.669 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, paving the way for the implementation of the state’s fiscal and development plans for the year.

The governor had presented the budget, tagged “Budget of Sustainable Legacy,” to the Ogun State House of Assembly on December 3, 2025.

The signing ceremony took place at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, and was attended by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, other principal officers and lawmakers, as well as members of the State Executive Council.

Speaking after assenting to the bill, Abiodun said the implementation of the budget would commence immediately after the holidays, with a focus on improving revenue generation and expenditure performance.

He noted that the 2026 budget represents a significant increase in the state’s financial outlook, recording a 58 per cent rise over the 2025 budget of ₦1.054 trillion.

“This time last year, we signed into law an appropriation of about ₦1.054 trillion. This year, we are signing into law an appropriation of ₦1.669 trillion, which represents a 58 per cent increase over the 2025 budget,” the governor said.

Abiodun explained that the timely passage and signing of the budget before the end of the year was consistent with his administration’s commitment to fiscal continuity, predictability and effective governance.

He commended the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for their cooperation and diligence, noting that lawmakers worked through the holiday period to ensure speedy consideration and passage of the bill.

“Once we presented the bill, they immediately went to work. They thoroughly scrutinised it, engaged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and did so expeditiously, despite the encroachment of the holiday period,” he said.

In his remarks, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide said the House subjected the bill to rigorous scrutiny to ensure it aligned with the developmental needs and aspirations of Ogun State.

According to him, lawmakers worked tirelessly to ensure the budget was passed before the end of the year, describing the governor’s assent as a positive step towards effective implementation in 2026.
