The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has rejected claims linking him to the alleged mismanagement of ₦18.6 billion reportedly connected to the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) headquarters project.
The allegations, raised by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), suggested that the Speaker could be held accountable for funds associated with the NASC building. In response, Abbas’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, described the claims as “factually incorrect and misleading.”
The statement emphasized that the Speaker has no direct or indirect involvement in awarding, processing, supervising, or approving payments for any contract within the National Assembly or its agencies. Krishi noted that all contractual matters are handled by the administrative bureaucracy, which follows its own statutory procedures. He also added that the NASC headquarters project was initiated and executed before the current House leadership assumed office.
Abbas’s office called on SERAP, the media, and the public to respect the clear separation between political leadership and administrative functions within the National Assembly. The statement urged responsible reporting and warned against attributing administrative decisions to political officeholders without verification.
