The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has issued a directive prohibiting certain interactions between men and women, warning residents against behaviours considered inconsistent with Sharia law, particularly during festive periods.
In a statement dated December 31, 2025, the Commission highlighted prohibited activities, including “reckless driving or moving in vehicles, especially in public during weddings or Sallah celebrations,” as well as “physical interaction between men and women in vehicles, particularly on Keke Napep, motorcycles, or at public gatherings.”
The statement also cautioned against “private conversations under the pretext of chatting between men and women, especially in ways that Sharia does not approve.”
The directive was issued by the office of the State Commander of the Hisbah Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale, with the approval of the Commission Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar.
The Hisbah Commission urged parents and the wider community to support the enforcement of the rules, emphasizing that the measures are intended “to preserve the moral upbringing of our children.”
