Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka on Monday met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil.

During the meeting, Soyinka presented his book Mito, Literatura e o Mundo Africano (Myth, Literature & the African World) to President Lula, showcasing Africa’s cultural and literary heritage.

The encounter added a cultural layer to Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements in Brazil, as Soyinka’s work highlights African myths, literature, and their global relevance, offering Brazilian leaders insight into the continent’s intellectual traditions.

President Tinubu’s visit has centered on strengthening bilateral relations in trade, investment, and cultural exchange. Soyinka’s engagement further emphasized the role of arts and literature in fostering international cooperation.

Both sides also discussed collaboration in education, cultural exchange, and mutual support in multilateral forums, reinforcing the long-standing ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
