Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and concluding official engagements in Germany.
During the week-long assignment, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s national statement at the UN, where he called for comprehensive reforms of the global body, advocated Africa’s sovereignty over its estimated $700 billion mineral resources, and advanced partnerships with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and other international stakeholders.
The Vice President also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who commended Nigeria’s bid for a permanent seat on the Security Council. In another forum, Shettima presented the country’s $200 billion energy transition opportunities to global investors.
Before proceeding to Germany, he assured members of the Nigerian diaspora of the administration’s commitment to robust engagement in its policies and programmes.
The details of his trip were contained in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha.
