Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has described the state’s development since its creation in 1996 as “phenomenal,” citing achievements in infrastructure, health, education, economy, and social development.
The governor made the remarks in a statewide broadcast on Sunday to mark the 29th anniversary of Ekiti State and Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. He expressed gratitude to God and paid tribute to the state’s founding fathers, traditional rulers, and patriots who fought for its creation.
Oyebanji congratulated President Bola Tinubu on Nigeria’s independence anniversary, noting Ekiti’s appreciation of his support. He also urged residents to back the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has placed the economy on a positive trajectory “not seen in almost two decades.”
Reflecting on the state’s journey, Oyebanji commended past leaders, civil servants, and citizens for their contributions to its growth, while acknowledging that more work remains to be done.
He further appealed to political parties, leaders, and supporters in Ekiti to embrace peace as the state prepares for party primaries later this year and the governorship election in June 2026.
