Global music icon Rihanna on Friday marked 20 years in the industry, sharing a message of gratitude to her fans, collaborators, and family, while reigniting anticipation for new music.

In a post on X, the Barbadian-born star reflected on her journey since the release of her 2005 debut single Pon de Replay and first album. “20 years ago, I left my country, my culture, my food, and family to embark on a journey that started with the release of my very first body of music. So many of you were a part of my life and career since the very beginning, and some of you have joined the adventure along the way. I’m forever grateful to all of you,” she wrote.

She hailed her fans as “the most loyal, die-hard” supporters, and thanked mentors, teams, and industry figures who backed her early career. “I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you! Thank you for the greatest first 20 years ever,” she added, closing with the hashtag #R20 and a prayer emoji.

The post set off widespread celebration online, with admirers highlighting her achievements—ranging from nine Grammy Awards to her billion-dollar Fenty business empire. It also revived speculation of a new album, as Rihanna’s last studio release, Anti, came out in 2016.

Though she has yet to confirm new music, fans say they hope her next major announcement will deliver the long-awaited project nearly a decade in the making.
