Gunmen have abducted a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Mr. Ayodeji Akesinro, in Ondo State.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday at his residence in Upenme, Owo Local Government Area.
The National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) confirmed the development, noting that the matter had been reported to security agencies. In a message shared on its WhatsApp platform, the union described the abduction as “distressing” and threatened to stage a protest if Akesinro is not released.
NUAHP demanded his immediate and safe release, improved security in Owo and surrounding communities, and stronger collaboration with security operatives to track down the abductors.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, also confirmed the abduction. He assured that security operatives, in collaboration with local hunters, were working round the clock to rescue the victim and apprehend the suspects.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure kidnapping is nipped in the bud. Our men combed the bush throughout the night with the support of local hunters. I can assure you the kidnappers will be arrested,” the commissioner said.
