The internal rift within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Tuesday as the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike called on party members nationwide to stay away from the upcoming national convention in Ibadan. The group cited a new court ruling as invalidating the convention process.
Speaking to Vanguard in Abuja, PDP Acting National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor said the party cannot proceed with the Ibadan gathering until internal disputes are resolved. He described the planned event as “just an early Christmas party” and questioned its legal and organizational legitimacy.
Osadolor noted that a recent court decision stemming from a suit filed by former governor Sule Lamido further undermines the Ibadan convention. He warned members against spending money or risking travel to attend an event he said lacks legal standing.
“Whatever they are doing in Ibadan is a charade. Even the Oyo State governor knows it is just lighting a candle in the wind,” Osadolor added.
He also stated that Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Muhammed had officially cancelled the Ibadan exercise, a decision that remains effective until the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meets to determine next steps.
Efforts to reach Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde’s camp pushing for the convention to go ahead on 15 and 16 November, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not answered.
