The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday will no longer take place due to the ongoing national leadership crisis within the party.
Speaking with journalists at the PDP secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, the State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, said the internal crisis had disrupted the processes required by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for valid primaries. He noted that the statutory ward and local government congresses slated for November 24 and 29, where delegates to the primary were to be elected, could not hold.
Bisi explained that although Governor Ademola Adeleke is the only aspirant who purchased and submitted nomination forms and was duly screened, the party cannot proceed without an INEC-recognized resolution due to the stalled congresses.
“In light of these developments, it has become inevitable that the PDP governorship primary earlier fixed for Tuesday, December 2, can no longer hold,” he said.
He added that Governor Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the national leadership crisis is resolved and INEC approves a valid nomination process within its timeline.
While noting that primaries are the responsibility of the party’s national leadership, Bisi said the state chapter remains committed to keeping members and the public informed as events unfold.
