Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has condemned the killing of over 40 people in a terrorist attack on Kasuwan-Daji Market in the Domo community of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State. He urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to stop what he described as the growing normalisation of mass killings across Nigeria.
In a statement on X, Obi said the attack highlighted the country’s ongoing insecurity as it entered the new year. He described the incident as part of a broader pattern of violence sweeping multiple states, citing recent attacks in Plateau, Kano, and Katsina states that left numerous dead and injured.
“It is deeply worrisome and unacceptable that, as we usher in a new year, the cycle of senseless killings and insecurity continues unchecked across our nation,” Obi said. “The protection of lives must remain the foremost responsibility of government. We cannot continue to normalise these killings.”
The former presidential candidate called for a coordinated, capable, and decisive national effort to tackle insecurity, stressing that citizens urgently need government intervention to restore safety and public confidence.
Obi’s statement underscores growing concern over the rise of armed banditry and terrorist attacks in Nigeria, highlighting the need for stronger security measures to prevent further loss of life.
