Suspected bandits on Friday attacked commuters along the Danjibga–Kuncin Kalgo Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, burning two vehicles and abducting all passengers on board.
Sources told SaharaReporters that the attackers blocked the road before launching the assault. After seizing the occupants of the vehicles, the assailants set the vehicles on fire and fled the area. The whereabouts of the abducted passengers remained unknown as of Saturday.
The incident was confirmed by a security alert platform, Bakatsine, which said the attack underscored the continued insecurity on major highways across Zamfara State.
The latest attack comes days after Nigerian security forces cleared the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road following a deadly improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that killed at least eight people. The clearance followed an emergency joint operation launched after the December 27 blast along the Magami–Dansadau axis, which also destroyed property and caused panic among residents and travellers.
Acting on the directive of the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, specialised Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were deployed to search the affected highway amid concerns that more explosives may have been planted.
The operation involved police and military EOD units, as well as the Joint Task Force under Operation Fansa-Yamma, with armed security providing cover throughout the exercise.
