The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has welcomed Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the ruling party following his formal registration.
Mutfwang’s entry into the APC comes after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which he was elected governor. SaharaReporters had earlier reported the governor’s decision to leave the PDP, marking a major shift in his political affiliation.
With his registration, Mutfwang joins the ranks of serving APC governors, a development expected to influence the party’s structure and operations in Plateau State.
Reacting to the defection, Yilwatda, on behalf of the party’s National Working Committee, described the governor’s decision as a bold and patriotic move motivated by what he called a “higher calling” to serve the people of Plateau State and Nigeria.
According to the APC chairman, the governor’s registration reflects a shared vision for inclusive development, peace and prosperity in the state. He assured Mutfwang of the party’s readiness to work closely with him to advance the interests of Plateau State and deliver dividends of democracy.
Mutfwang had formally resigned from the PDP in a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the ward chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area. In the letter, he cited the need for clarity of direction and effective leadership as reasons for his decision.
The governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to serve on its platform and thanked party leaders and supporters for their support during his time in the party, while extending his regards to the party leadership.
