Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has dismissed claims that he was targeted by the United States during recent airstrikes on terrorists in Sokoto State.

In a statement on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Gumi said the reports were based on an old video in which he spoke about threats to his life, specifically referencing Boko Haram, not the recent US operations.

Gumi clarified that an alleged attempt on his life by Boko Haram in 2012 had no connection to the recent airstrikes. He added that he is currently safe and faces no ongoing threat.

“There is fake news going viral claiming I was targeted by the US attack on Nigerian soil. I never said this, nor considered such a possibility,” Gumi wrote. “I am staying at home with my family safely, without fear or intimidation.”

He recalled the 2012 incident, noting that two individuals who attempted to harm him were killed when a bomb detonated near his residence. Gumi urged news agencies that circulated the false reports to retract them and issue apologies.
