Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has condemned the continued inaction of Nigerian security agencies over the December 28, 2025, abduction, public humiliation, and assault of Nigerian actor Don Pedro, also known as Dr. Pedro Obaseki, in Benin City, Edo State.

Falana described the attack as a “clear criminal act” that threatened Obaseki’s life and dignity. Speaking on Arise News TV, he said armed assailants abducted the actor while he was playing football, stripped him naked, and beat him, firing shots into the air to intimidate onlookers.

He criticized the response of authorities, noting that Obaseki was detained at a police station for several hours while the attackers were neither arrested nor questioned. “Up to now, none of the criminal elements have been arrested and brought to book,” Falana said, warning that failure to prosecute the perpetrators would encourage lawlessness and mob justice.

Rights advocates have called for an independent investigation into both the assault and the conduct of the police.
