Tension is mounting in Ataroga, a border community between Ebonyi and Benue states, after suspected gunmen killed several cows early Sunday, sparking fear, displacement, and heightened insecurity.

Ataroga, an Izzi-speaking community in Ado Local Government Area of Ebonyi, has reportedly been deserted as residents fled, claiming homes were destroyed and properties looted. A video circulating on social media shows distressed residents appealing to the government and security agencies for urgent intervention.

According to residents, suspected Igede attackers invaded the community around 4 a.m., killed the cattle, and drove away herdsmen. Retaliatory attacks by herdsmen, including burning of homes and deaths, have also been reported, though these claims remain unverified.

Security agencies have made some arrests, and investigations are ongoing, but tension remains high as residents await decisive action to restore peace.
