The Nigeria Police Force has ordered all personnel assigned to provide security for 20 Very Important Persons (VIPs) to return to their bases and refocus on frontline policing duties. The directive follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Sunday order to redeploy officers from VIP protection to strengthen general law enforcement nationwide.
The Mobile Force, 50 Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, instructed officers to report back to base by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The directive, signed by CSP Suleiman Abdullahi, Administrative Officer, 50PMF, applies to security personnel assigned to prominent figures, including former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo; FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; former First Lady Aisha Buhari; Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun; and the Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III.
Other VIPs on the list include Chief Judge of Nigeria, Senator Tanko Almakura, Minister of State for Labour, APC Women Leader Alhaji Kamba, Ngozi Iweala, Senator Ahmed Lawal, and several other officials.
Under the new arrangement, VIPs seeking personal security must now request protection from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The presidential directive, issued during a security meeting in Abuja with top military and intelligence officials, aims to strengthen policing in remote areas and ensure that officers are deployed where public safety needs are most urgent. Earlier, internal adjustments had already begun in Lagos, where officers attached to VIPs were ordered back to base ahead of the nationwide implementation.
