The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman suspected of killing her husband just three days after their wedding in Jibia Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu said in a statement on Monday that the victim, identified as Abdullahi (not his real name), was found in a pool of blood at his home in Tashar Buja community on November 23 at around 1:30 p.m. He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, where the victim was discovered with a deep cut on his neck,” Aliyu said. “A suspect, believed to be the wife of the deceased, has been taken into custody as investigations continue.”
Residents identified the groom as Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, and the bride as Zainab Muhammad. Community sources alleged that the bride stabbed her husband while he slept and later went to a neighbour’s house for food, raising suspicions that led women in the community to follow her home and find the deceased lifeless.
Family members of the deceased denied reports that the marriage was forced, describing the couple’s relationship as cordial before the wedding.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, assured residents of a thorough investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.
