Convener and National Chairman of the Igbo Agenda Dialogue (IAD), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has commended Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for visiting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.
Okorie described the visit as bold, proactive, and thoughtful, saying it demonstrated Governor Otti’s readiness to provide leadership whenever necessary. He also praised the governor for what he called unprecedented multi-sectoral development in Abia State, noting that Otti has continued to recover the political and developmental ground the state lost over the past 24 years.
“Many well-meaning people of Abia State, including myself, are proud of your indefatigable efforts to restore our state’s lost developmental and political mileage. I assure you of my continued solidarity and prayers,” Okorie said.
Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu has raised fresh concerns over what he alleged to be systematic executive and judicial fraud aimed at keeping him in detention. In an open letter to Nigerians, the IPOB leader cited several court rulings from 2017 to 2023 that he claims were either ignored, overridden, or manipulated by government officials to ensure his continued incarceration.
Kanu referenced judgments from the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court, arguing that each verdict should have led to his release or restored his bail. He accused the government of secretly collaborating with judicial officers to undermine due process, including the reassignment of his case to a judge he said had already been validly recused.
He insisted he would not submit to any trial conducted by a court that, in his view, lacks constitutional jurisdiction over his case.
“If it will take the rest of my life in detention to produce me before a proper and impartial court, so be it,” Kanu declared.
