The Nigerian military has announced the rescue of two additional Chibok girls, Yana Pogu and Rejoice Sanki, in Borno.

Major General Christopher Musa, Theatre Commander, North-East Joint Operation, said this to reporters in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Major General Shuaibu Waidi, General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Maiduguri, who introduced them to the media, stated that they will be turned over to the Borno State Government after passing medical checkup with their children.

Waidi stated that Pogu, who is number 19 on the list of abducted Chibok females, was recovered with four children, two boys and twin girls, on September 29, 2022, in Mairari village, Bama Local Government Area, by troops of the 21 Armoured Brigade during a clearance sweep.

He went on to say that the rescued ladies and their children were being examined by doctors before being handed over to the Borno State Government.

Musa, who also announced the establishment of a new camp to house repentant Boko Haram militants who had surrendered, said that the new camp would be located in a safe place where the military could safeguard it.

The military has recovered 13 Chibok girls in the previous five months. So far, around 96 of the 276 girls taken by terrorists in 2014 remain in captivity.
