The Kano State Government has dismissed reports alleging the diversion of ₦6.5 billion from the state treasury, describing the claims as politically motivated attempts to discredit Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa, said the allegation originated from a Daily Nigerian publication of August 22, 2025, which accused some government aides of financial misconduct.

Bature explained that the matter is already before the High Court and maintained that the claims were “false narratives” aimed at eroding public confidence in the administration. He noted that the allegations centre on the Director General of the Government House Protocol Directorate, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, who was accused of mismanaging funds.

“The government makes bold to say every cash outflow into Ministries, Departments, and Agencies is properly budgeted with clear codes well spelt out in the fiscal policy of the state. No individual in government MDAs handles public funds without proper designated purpose,” the statement read.

He stressed that the Protocol Directorate is responsible for logistics, welfare, accommodation, and the governor’s engagements, as well as hosting visiting dignitaries and diplomats. According to him, over 95 percent of the directorate’s responsibilities involve large financial transactions authorised in line with budgetary provisions.

The state government alleged that the accusations were sponsored by opposition figures seeking to distract the administration ahead of the 2027 elections. It also criticised the immediate past administration led by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing it of reckless spending, including over ₦20 billion allegedly spent by the Protocol Directorate within three months between February and May 2023.

Bature further recalled the “dollar-video scandal” involving Ganduje and accused the previous government of financial mismanagement, land grabbing, and questionable asset acquisitions.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the Yusuf-led administration urged the public to disregard the allegations and warned against deliberate misinformation. It also threatened legal action against individuals or groups attempting to tarnish the image of its officials.

“The allegations being peddled are nothing more than fiction, carefully crafted by political opponents who have resorted to blackmail and propaganda. This administration will not succumb to misinformation,” the statement added.

The government expressed confidence in Rogo, saying he and other officials were ready to cooperate with anti-graft agencies if required. It also urged media organisations to verify facts before publication.

“As the case stands before a court of competent jurisdiction, the Kano State Government will remain indifferent on the matter until the court reaches its decision,” the statement concluded.
