In a statement released on Wednesday, September 21st, the Pyongyang defense ministry claimed that Washington and “hostile forces” had spread rumors of arms deals in an effort to harm North Korea’s reputation.

Countering the claim, a senior official at the ministry’s equipment bureau, said in a statement that was published on Thursday by the state news agency KCNA,

“We have never exported weapons or ammunition to Russia before and we will not plan to export them.”

John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, mentioned earlier this month that Moscow may decide to buy millions of rockets and artillery shells from Pyongyang. He asserted that the United States lacked proof that any sales had actually occurred.

According to military experts, there are still severe supply shortages for the Russian military in Ukraine, most likely as a result of export restrictions and sanctions.

British intelligence analysts, report that Russia is “almost certainly increasingly sourcing weaponry” from other countries that have been sanctioned, including Iran and North Korea.

Since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February, a move that largely incited outrage in the West; North Korea, which is largely isolated, has vowed its support for Russia.
