The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, for allegedly killing his lover, Confidence Sunny, aged 44, in Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the development on Monday, said the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, when the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a machete.
She explained that Chinamezu fled the community after the incident and was traced to Egbeta village in Edo State, where he was arrested on August 15 by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit using technical intelligence.
According to Iringe-Koko, the suspect also threatened members of the victim’s family while in hiding. She added that he has confessed to the crime and is currently undergoing investigation and profiling for possible links to other offences.
The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift action, assuring that Rivers State would not serve as a safe haven for criminals. He warned perpetrators of violent crimes to desist or face the full weight of the law.
