The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, in collaboration with the Air Component, have foiled a fresh attempt by terrorists to attack and rustle livestock in Ragada and Warari communities, Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain David Adewusi, the terrorists were intercepted and engaged in a coordinated assault near Inana Village by joint troops from the Mariga and Zuru axes as they advanced from the Baban Doka area in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Adewusi disclosed that several terrorists were neutralised during the fierce exchange of gunfire, while two AK-47 rifles, a loaded magazine with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 18 motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other items were recovered from the fleeing insurgents.
The Air Component of the operation reportedly provided intelligence, surveillance, and targeted airstrikes to support ground forces during the engagement.
The Nigerian Army, however, confirmed the loss of one soldier who was fatally injured during the operation.
Captain Adewusi reaffirmed the military’s determination to rid the North West and parts of the North Central region of terrorist and criminal elements. He called for continued public cooperation, especially through the provision of credible information to aid ongoing operations.
