The spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa state, CSC Adamu Shehu, has confirmed on Sunday the death of a 10-year-old boy, who drowned on Saturday, September 24, in the Buji Local Government Area, of the state.

He reported that the boy drowned while swimming in a pond in Lelen Kudu village with his friends.

“His body was found two hours after he drowned and was pronounced dead by a doctor,’’ Shehu said.

The corpse was immediately handed over to the parents, as he warned parents not to let their children swim in flooded ponds and rivers.

Shehu also disclosed that the NSCDC discovered the body of an abandoned baby girl by a roadside in Hadejia Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the body was discovered by residents on Sunday at the Kandahar Quarters, and they alert the operatives, who took the baby to Hadejia General Hospital, where it was confirmed dead by a doctor, and later handed over to the Ward Head of the area, Malam Sani Afenza, for burial.

Shehu assured NAN that the NSCDC would investigate the situation and ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
