The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained Pastor Kayode Olawoye, an Ogun State-based cleric and civic advocate who has been campaigning for improved road infrastructure across the state.

SaharaReporters learnt that Pastor Olawoye was invited on Monday to the DSS office in Abeokuta for what was described as a routine discussion. This marked the third invitation extended to him by the agency. Unlike previous occasions, however, he was not allowed to leave the facility and was subsequently placed under detention.

The circumstances surrounding his detention have sparked concern among residents, who allege that it forms part of a broader clampdown on individuals critical of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Pastor Olawoye has in recent weeks intensified public calls for the rehabilitation of major roads in Ogun State, drawing attention to the deteriorating condition of key routes and the daily challenges faced by commuters, traders, and residents. His advocacy has reportedly been carried out through sermons, community engagements, and media appearances.

Critics of the state government argue that the administration has become increasingly intolerant of dissent, particularly from individuals who highlight governance lapses at the local government level.

Last year, Governor Abiodun was accused of backing the impeachment of the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, following his insistence on the release of statutory allocations to his council. The impeachment was later challenged in court.

In December 2025, a court nullified Adedayo’s removal, describing it as illegal, unconstitutional, and politically motivated. He was reinstated as chairman, while ₦30 million in damages was awarded against those responsible for the impeachment.

Separately, SaharaReporters had reported that the Ogun State Police Command filed a six-count criminal charge against a social media blogger, Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as @justadetoun, over allegations of cybercrime, false information, and obstruction of justice. The charges are pending before the Federal High Court in Abeokuta.

According to police, Onajobi was invited for questioning on January 2, 2026, but failed to honour the invitation, citing medical reasons through her lawyer. Police later claimed that investigations revealed the medical report submitted on her behalf was falsified.

The doctor whose name appeared on the report was arrested and subsequently arraigned before a magistrates’ court on charges including conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstruction of justice.
