Security operatives in Yobe State have arrested a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer along with 16 other suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Damaturu. The operation underscores growing concerns over the alleged involvement of uniformed personnel in criminal networks.

The raid took place on Sunday at approximately 7:20 p.m. in the Saman Tudu area of Pompomari District, following an intelligence-led effort to dismantle a suspected criminal hub. Sources said the location had become a center for drug trafficking, consumption, and the planning of various illegal activities.

Among those arrested was Mohammed Kolo, an NSCDC operative attached to the Yobe State Command. Items seized at the scene reportedly included a knife, five bicycles, dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, hemp wrapping papers, a long sack allegedly used as a mat, and N8,500 found inside a sack suspected to contain drugs.

The suspects remain in custody as authorities investigate their roles and the extent of their involvement in the criminal activities. Officials said those found culpable would be charged to court in accordance with the law.

Security agencies also called on the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support law enforcement efforts and help maintain safety across the state.
