Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has disclosed that Nigeria’s women’s national football team is yet to receive the $100,000 cash reward promised by President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu had announced the monetary gift during a special reception in honour of the team for winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In addition to the cash prize, the players and coaching staff were also promised houses and conferred with national honours.
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade confirmed that none of the pledges have been fulfilled so far.
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it will be paid,” she said. “They have not paid; all the promises, we have not received anything.”
Interestingly, just a week after the announcement for the Super Falcons, President Tinubu made a similar pledge of cash rewards, houses, and honours to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress.
