Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated a 489-member campaign council ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State. The council was unveiled at the regional headquarters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

At the event, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, declared its support for Soludo’s re-election bid. The group’s National Secretary and former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Emeka Sibudu, said Ohanaeze would always support any performing governor in the South East, regardless of political party.

“It is in line with the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo that we must support any governor of Igbo extraction that is performing well. Governor Soludo is doing well, and we encourage him to continue in that regard,” Sibudu said.

In his remarks, Soludo described APGA as stronger and more united than at any other time in its history. He urged members of the campaign council to see themselves as “apostles” of the party’s philosophy of brotherhood and service.

The governor also took a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, over the party’s performance in the August 16 by-election. Soludo said the APC had described the poll as a “mock election” ahead of the governorship race but was defeated.

Soludo, who is seeking a second term, expressed confidence in APGA’s chances in the upcoming election, noting that the people of Anambra State would judge based on performance.
