Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.
His family confirmed his death in a statement released on Monday, announcing that he died on October 6, 2025. The statement described his passing as a “glorious transition” from a life of devoted Christian service to eternal rest.
Rev. Ukpai, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists, dedicated over six decades of his life to preaching, teaching, and demonstrating the gospel with passion and prophetic grace. His ministry touched millions of lives across Nigeria and beyond, inspiring generations through faith, mentorship, and humanitarian service.
“He was a faithful soldier of the cross who devoted his life to spreading the gospel with passion and integrity,” the family stated. “His teachings, prophetic insights, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire believers for years to come.”
Over the years, Ukpai became known for his dynamic crusades, powerful sermons, and unwavering commitment to training and empowering church leaders and lay Christians alike.
Beyond his spiritual impact, he was celebrated as a devoted husband, loving father, and mentor to many, who saw in him a model of humility, discipline, and faith.
While expressing their grief, the family said they take comfort in the knowledge that he “finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.” They also noted that details of his burial arrangements would be announced later.
Rev. Ukpai’s legacy includes churches, educational projects, and humanitarian initiatives that continue to shape communities across Nigeria and other parts of the world. His life, the family added, reflected the biblical truth from Philippians 1:21 — “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
