A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately dismiss the nation’s security chiefs, citing the continued killings and deteriorating security situation across Nigeria.

Frank made the call in a statement while reacting to the recent killing of soldiers in Borno State by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, describing the development as a “national tragedy” that demands urgent executive intervention.

He expressed concern over the surge in insecurity, banditry, and kidnappings nationwide, lamenting that Nigerians are being killed “like chickens” across the North, South, East, and West — a situation he said reflects a total collapse of the country’s security architecture.

“Our soldiers and policemen are dying in large numbers due to poor funding and lack of proper equipment. Despite the huge budgetary allocations to the security sector, the funds do not reach those on the front lines, nor are they used to procure the right equipment to combat insecurity,” Frank stated.

The activist also commended U.S. President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for speaking out against the killings in Nigeria, saying their intervention has drawn global attention to the country’s worsening insecurity.

“We commend President Donald Trump for his concern and moral courage in condemning the killings of Nigerians. We also appreciate Senator Ted Cruz for lending his voice to these injustices. Their actions have helped break the silence of our political class, particularly those in the ruling party,” he said.

Frank, who serves as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, further urged the U.S. government and other international partners to pressure the Nigerian government to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“This administration cannot continue to negotiate with terrorists while detaining innocent and peaceful Nigerians. We call on the international community, especially the U.S. government, to intervene and pressurise President Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu immediately,” he added.

He also praised President Trump for his leadership in facilitating negotiations for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza, urging him to “extend the same compassion” toward calls for Kanu’s freedom.

Frank lauded activist Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), for his consistent advocacy for Kanu’s unconditional release.

On Nigeria–U.S. relations, Frank stressed the importance of preserving long-standing diplomatic ties between the two nations.

“Nigeria has always maintained a cordial relationship with the United States. We will not allow any government or individual to destroy that friendship. As Nigerians, we remain committed to strengthening our ties with the U.S. in the interest of peace, democracy, and global security,” he said.

He, however, criticised the Nigerian Senate for condemning Senator Ted Cruz’s comments on the killing of Nigerians, describing the lawmakers as a “disgrace and disappointment.”

“If the Senate had diligently carried out its oversight duties by holding the executive accountable and ensuring the security chiefs perform their responsibilities, Senator Ted Cruz would not have used Nigeria as an example of a nation plagued by killings and human rights abuses,” Frank stated.

He faulted the lawmakers for being quick to defend the government while neglecting their constitutional duty to protect Nigerians and uphold justice.
