Generated Electricity Reduced to 38MW.

The Federal Government on Tuesday, September 27th, reported a collapse of the national power grid.
According to a data report from the Federal Ministry of Power, the amount of electricity produced on the grid as of Monday, September 26th, 6am, was 3,713.1MW, however, at 10:51am, this reading dropped to 38MW.
This occurrence is coming as the seventh failure of the national electricity grid in 2022.
Following the development, organizations that advocate for power consumers has demanded sanctions be taken against any company or operator responsible for the ongoing grid collapse that has characterised Nigeria’s electricity system since this year.
Several power distribution companies confirmed the grid collapse, likewise the Transmission Company of Nigeria, through its spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said;
We wishes to inform the public that the national grid experienced partial system disturbance at approximately 10.51am today, September 26, 2022.”
A thorough investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the disturbance, according to the TCN National Control Center, as this unwholesome event has resulted in aggregated generation loss.
TCN which manages the electricity grid, maintained that a decrease in system frequency was to blame, given that the grid collapse was confirmed by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc on Monday, and it was reported to have happened at 10:51am.
The National Technical Investigative Panel on Power System Collapses/System Stability and Reliability (June 2013) member and President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo, said;
“The country needs to do more in terms of upgrading outdated grid infrastructure, grid automation, make more investments in grid system interfaces, protection devices, with emphasis on load frequency management scheme.
“Infractions related to grid system indiscipline should also be subject to penalties and consequences. Without a doubt, the current complete collapse of the power grid comes at a great cost to the nation as a whole, the economy, and the end users”
He added that the “total system collapse” on Monday was regrettable and unnecessary.
