The Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, allegedly included names of National Assembly members in the Nigeria Police Academy admission list. The Force described the report as false, malicious, and defamatory.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police clarified that admission into the Academy for the 2025/2026 academic session was conducted strictly on merit. A total of 370 candidates—ten from each state and Abuja were admitted after meeting all academic, physical, and character requirements, with no state receiving preferential treatment.
“The report alleging that IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun smuggled names into the admission list is a barefaced lie,” the statement said. “It is an irresponsible attempt to mislead the public and malign the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The Police emphasized that while recommendations from well-meaning individuals or institutions are considered, they do not override merit or influence the selection process.
“Under the watch of IGP Egbetokun, no name is smuggled, no slot is sold, and no standard is compromised. We challenge the online medium to produce a single verifiable name that fails to meet the stipulated admission requirements,” the statement added.
The Force warned that the publication of false reports undermines public confidence in national institutions and may have national security implications. It cautioned the online medium to desist from spreading misinformation, noting that legal action, including defamation proceedings, could be pursued if the claims persist.
The public has been advised to disregard the report, and the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and accountability in all its operations.
