A traditional leader in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Da Yohana Margif, has raised concerns over the alleged occupation of seven villages in Mushere Chiefdom by armed Fulani militants.
Da Margif, who holds the title of Waziri Mushere, made the claim in a statement issued on Friday. He identified the affected villages as Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif, alleging that the communities were violently attacked, with many residents killed and thousands displaced.
“For over three months, these villages have been under constant attack and siege. The residents have fled their homes and now live in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps,” he said.
According to him, the armed groups have taken control of the communities, renamed them, erected tents, and now openly graze cattle on farmlands, allegedly with impunity.
“The terrorists have not only taken our land but are carrying weapons and living freely in our ancestral homes, while our people are left homeless, living on rocks and wandering in the wilderness,” he lamented.
Da Margif called on the government and security agencies to urgently intervene and reclaim the occupied villages to enable displaced persons to return home.
“We know those responsible. The authorities must direct security forces to act decisively so that our people can return to their homes,” he said, urging the Plateau State government to take immediate action to restore peace and security in the area.
The crisis in Plateau State has continued to draw national attention amid repeated attacks on rural communities across the state.
