Following a thread of endless crisis rocking the boat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), some aggrieved members have tabled the party issues before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), with such claims as corruption, misappropriation of funds, among others.
The invitation which was sought under the auspices of the Forum of PDP Candidates and Aspirants for 2023 Elections, was signed by the forum’s coordinator Chris Ogbu, secretary Dauda Yusuf, and publicity secretary C. Ikenta on Friday, September 30, 2022.
The petitioners specifically requested that the commission look into and bring charges against the party leaders for alleged criminal misappropriation of party funds, illegal disbursement of funds, bribery, and other offenses.
Senators Iyorchia Ayu (National Chairman), Samuel Anyanwu (National Secretary), and Umar Iliya Damagnum (Deputy National Chairman) were on the list of to be investigated party members.
The petition stated, in part,
“It is a matter of national and international embarrassment that the aforementioned members of the National Executive Committee of the Party have criminally mismanaged and frittered over N10 billion which the party realised from the sale of Nomination Form during the parties primaries, without the due authorization of the NEC.”
“In addition, they had bribed and threatened candidates in various ways, disregarding the party’s unwavering stance against corruption.”
This claim is supported by the recent development of some National Working Committee members refunding various amounts of money.
